“I had written the first draft of my book, Forsaken Trust, and was desperate for someone to help me edit and polish my manuscript. Working with Wendy has been a great experience. Her coaching style is always so positive and encouraging. Without her help to move my project forward, I’m sure the story would still be stored in a box somewhere but now it’s a published book.”

I had an idea for a book in my head, yet nowhere near fit to print. From the moment this lovely, soft-spoken woman began her presentation, she had me in her pocket. I sat back and soaked up the wisdom of Wendy, who in my opinion is a born teacher – a true book mentor who exhibits a rare talent to spark the intelligence, the capability and the performance of aspiring writers like me.

I am so grateful to Wendy Dewar Hughes for her coaching on the story of my childhood that I have just written and published. It started out sounding like a documentary. One of the first things Wendy did was show me how to use action verbs. I was stunned with how a sentence could instantly sound so much more interesting and thought, “Wow! If only I could do that!”
Wendy coached me on how to express things so that people feel like they are in the story. She explained how to give much more detail about how places looked so people could picture themselves there as they read. Soon I was having great fun re-writing whole chapters, making my stories come alive . My whole book completely changed. I enjoyed it much more myself, and began to feel proud of my work because I knew it was interesting, even gripping at times.
Now I have the privilege of reading people’s comments on how they laughed, cried and lived through the story with me, actually feeling the pain or laughing at the joy and hilariousness of situations.
Thank you, Wendy! I am so indebted to you. I would recommend your phenomenal coaching to anyone.

I recently hired Wendy to help get my book "The Making" edited, published on Amazon and digitally produced. She also helped me with cover design and creation.
She offers a great and timely service. She edits in a way that maintains your voice and flow of your work as well as gives advice on various minute details that most first time authors overlook. I highly recommend her services. If you want someone who is really hands on and thinks along with you to finish your project then Wendy should be your pick.

I believe the best reference is whether one would use the service again. Well, I have just finished my second book and Wendy will once again be my editor, layout and cover designer, and electronic marketing master and friend.
I whole-heartedly support Wendy. She held my inexperienced hand throughout the sometimes difficult process, giving sage advice. I know I could not have published my manuscript without her help and I plan to do it again very shortly.

Jim and I regret that we had not found Wendy Dewar Hughes before we had completed our manuscript. After we hired Wendy, she guided us through our book, line by line, paragraph by paragraph and chapter by chapter. She designed our book's interior and created our cover and logo, too.
We were anxious that Wendy might want to put her stamp on our story to make it her own. We need not have worried. It remains our creation.
Wendy's influence in our book is that her editing made our book shine. I am a journalist, and I know that a newspaper editor's job goes beyond looking for typos and legal issues, style and content. When it comes to any writing, the most important role an editor has is to make the words sparkle and come alive. Wendy helped us achieve that with Surfacing.
Jim and I are already plotting a sequel to Surfacing, and I am writing my own novel, and there will be absolutely no hesitation to hire Wendy again.

Another author (who had worked with Wendy) introduced us to Wendy. We signed up for her program and spent a great day with her then went along on a six week editing session. Wendy did not try to re-write our novel but "coached" us to dig deeper, be more descriptive, and we turned a good story into a great story.
When we were satisfied with the content, Wendy formatted the book, finalized the cover design, incorporating some of our photos and ideas. She had the book printed and soon our novel, Surfacing, was delivered to our door.
Utilizing Wendy's knowledge and expertise was the final piece we needed to get our book to the public. Work with Wendy and Summer Bay Press. You won't be sorry.
