Type, type, type
Monday, June 27, 2011 at 09:41PM The life of a writer requires a lot of typing. Typing requires a lot of hours at the keyboard and being at the keyboard requires a lot of sitting.
A lot of sitting is not good for the body. As I have experienced some of the problems associated with sitting for too long in one position I have had to adopt some strategies to deal with sore hip joints and tired back muscles.
Here are a few tips:
1. Set a timer to go off every hour and get up and walk around and do some stretches.
2. Start a walking program to keep those hip joints working and back muscles strong.
3. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Notice I said water, not coffee.
4. If you feel sleepy, lie down for fifteen or twenty minutes then do some vigorous exercise for five to ten minutes.
5. Use your brain for something that does not require laser focus, such as visiting with friends.
6. Eat good quality food and lay off the junk. (This is just plain common sense.) Good health always pays off.
It's not rocket science, but making a few small changes can reduce the possibility of pain caused by working in a static position. It's not always easy for writer's to fit in exercising because the work still has to get done, but none of these suggestions takes very long.
